16.12.08  New Dual Leadership at THIEME Personnel Changes Strengthen the Polyurethane Business THIEME announces new personal changes for the positions of technology leader and marketing leader in its polyurethane moulding business division. The functions which were previously a single position, have now been split into two new positions. This dual leadership of the polyurethane division strengthens its market presence and provides more effective support and technical development of customer projects. Moulded polyurethane (PUR) parts have been manufactured at Thieme in Teningen for more than 30 years. Thanks to the experience of more than 4000 customer-specific applications, Thieme is in a position to comprehensively advise and support its customers – from the structural design of the product to delivery and logistics of the completed components. In order to be equipped for the increasingly individual market and customer requirements, sales and market management will be taken over by Hartmut Buehrer starting in December 2008. Mr. Buehrer (49) has been employed by Thieme in the sales department since 1990 and possesses comprehensive PUR competence. He is assuming the tasks of Matthias Sick, who is leaving the company. The technical management position which was also previously assigned to Matthias Sick, will be assumed by Klaus Metzger (51). As a long-time Thieme employee Klaus Metzger offers the assurance of confidently meeting the new design and technology challenges and thus setting a new course. The new managers of sales and technology will report directly to the Thieme managing director Frank Thieme, who sees much promise in his new "double leadership". "I am convinced that with Mr. Buehrer and Mr. Metzger we are in the best situation to strengthen and further develop our market position as technology leader in the PUR sector".

04.03.08  Werner Thieme celebrates 80th birthday: pioneer and entrepreneur by conviction Werner Thieme, a man whose curriculum vitae has been characterised above all by a pioneering spirit, flexibility and trueness to himself, is celebrating his 80th birthday. After serving his apprenticeship as a fitter, he then worked as a draughtsman before going on to become a wholesale merchant. In 1960, he went out on his own with the foundation of the THIEME Maschinenfabrik OHG, and by 1965 he had founded a second company: Kunststoffe Werner Thieme KG. Today THIEME GmbH & Co. KG, with its two business divisions for polyurethane and printing systems, is regarded as an independent family company which can look back on decades of success on the international market. The special distinguishing feature for success has been flexibility to customer needs. Thus, THIEME has always changed and is still constantly changing to meet the requirements of the evolving markets it services. Now the company founder Werner Thieme is 80 years old and is still fully consumed with pioneering and enterprising spirit. But, in one respect he has always been conservative in the best sense of the word, specifically in the subject of location. Down through all the years he has remained loyal to his home in Teningen, Germany. Second-generation leader Frank Thieme now manages the company. The father remains as an adviser at his son's side and supports him with his vast experience. THIEME is today in an extremely solid position. Specifically, 2007 was an outstanding year with an increase in turnover of €20 million. It is clear that Werner Thieme can look back at his life's work with great satisfaction.

26.07.07  PUR versatility From mechanical engineering to medical technology: at the K 2007 THIEME will be demonstrating the versatility of the material polyurethane and the optimum organisation of the custom RIM process (Reaction Injection Moulding). Polyurethane is an extremely versatile material which is ideal for a wide range of product developments. At the THIEME booth at the international plastics trade fair K 2007, which will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany, in the last week of October, interested parties can inform themselves about the great potential of this material and experience how RIM processes from analysis to supply can be organised in the optimum manner. 13.11.06  Excellent form THIEME produces polyurethane housing for a dialysis machine Even in medical technology the design aspect of products is becoming increasingly important. One current example is the new dialysis machine by a leading medical technology manufacturer which will be on display from 15 to 17 November 2006 at the medical trade fair ComPaMED in Düsseldorf, Germany. The elegant housing is made of polyurethane (PUR) and is produced by THIEME in Teningen, Germany. For its elegant and ergonomic design the machine has been awarded the design prize "red dot award: product design". The housing of the dialysis machine consists of ten Custom RIM parts. The design with the rounded forms presented no problems thanks to the good flow characteristics of the material used: Baydur® 110 FR. Due to the low wall thicknesses that can be realised with this material, it was also possible to make the dialysis machine very compact in accordance with the wishes of the customer. In order to ensure the required stability, some of the parts are equipped with stiffening ribs. Assembly of the machine is very simple with pre-formed bushings, plug connections, fixing and support points. The interior of the housing is coated with conductive copper paint for electromagnetic screening; on the outside - in line with hospital requirements - it is coated with a highly chemical-resistant paint.

12.12.05  Sitting pretty with polyurethane Function elements of polyurethane hard foam give new office chairs elegance and stability The backrest of an office chair must not only be attractive and comfortable, it must also be able to cope with a high degree of stress and strain. In the new office chair series "silent rush" from a internationally operating company in Germany, this double requirement was solved using function elements of polyurethane (PUR) - developed and manufactured by THIEME in its main production plant in Germany. With its striking shell form, the 'silent rush' is a deliberate counterpoint to the usual, skeleton-like office swivel chair design. The typical aluminium support for the backrest is nonetheless present, even if it is hidden by the armchair-like design of the chairs. It was foamed into the PUR backrest shell, which in turn is hidden under the chair upholstery. This aluminium support directs the forces into the PUR shell.
